A bit more than a month ago I got the great opportunity to shoot some pictures for TimeOut Magazine. Therefore I met this very nice guy Anthony from event company ‘We Are Parable’, who was writing a story about sneakers, to portrait him in is favorite sneaker shop. He told me that he was just about to organize this big event about shoes which was supposed to take place in Shoreditch and invited me to come around with my camera to take some images of the launch party. So on the 10th October I found myself at Rag Factory art gallery, a very cool place just off Brick Lane, at a very special event called ‘Is It The Shoes?’ It was the opening of 4 days arts exhibition, film screenings and discussions about how sneakers influenced pop culture over the last 30 years. To be honest I have never been too much into trainers but I was deeply impressed by what these guys built up that night. Everything was very well organized, the atmosphere was great, the people were great, DJ top and I really liked how they actually managed to put sneakers from several decades and all sorts of pop cultural artwork together in one room. Thumbs up for this and a selection of pics by Torturett!
In fact this is very young Torturett having her first fries at McDonalds in West Berlin 1990ish after the Wall came down! God it was amazing, I still remember all the people there, too many, it was so busy and noisy, not what I was used to. My dad took this picture. It was our first day in West Berlin ever and he was sooo overwhelmed and happy. I was so young, couldn’t really understand but I knew this day was special.
I actually remember so much, all the impressions and things I’ve never seen before. I wish I would have been older at that time to catch this great atmosphere.
I say Hello to all the people who have been there, who have been through and who enjoy their freedom now!!
Love & Peace
